PAY ATTENTION!

This lesson is important if you desire to achieve answered prayer whenever you pray or make a prayer request using the prayer of faith based upon Mark 11:23-24.

Some call this prayer the Prayer of Petition." There are other forms of prayer, but for this study I'm going to focus upon the prayer of faith only!

Having Prayer Sense Makes Perfect Biblical Sense

That You Can Have What You Say!

Mark 11:23-24 (KJV)

23 For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith.  24 Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.

If you're tired of trying to be good enough to please God While you sit and wait for Him to answer your prayers, you're walking in circles.  This means that you have doubt and fear that God will answer your prayers.

But God's Word clearly states that we are heirs to everything God has.  We just need the confidence to know our right standing with God and we get that confidence from the Word.  I call it "Prayer Sense" Which includes 2 elements:

1. knowledge of Biblical prayer principles

Understanding how to scripturally pray the prayer of faith based upon Mark 11:23-24.

2. Knowing that you can rest in Christ

Knowledge that you can give your burdens to Jesus, rest in Him and trust that God is working on your behalf to answer your prayer. If you're a believer, you're the righteousness of God. You're entitled to receive answered prayer.

How Do We Get Right Standing With God?

We need to understand the principle of the "Key of the Cross!" It takes us out of man-made church doctrines and traditions and into the truth of God's Word to receive the true message of Jesus Christ without limitations because of skin color, race, geological location or mistakes made in the past.

What is this message that Jesus has for us?

That in Him we have rest. As we give our burdens to Him, we can be in peace while we trust God for answered prayer.  Because of the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross, we have this privilege! As we take our rest by faith, we have the assurance that successful Christian living is a reality and not just an illusive hope. Therefore we should expect answered prayer when we pray based upon God's Word.

Matthew 11:29-30 (NIV)  "29. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.  30.  For my yoke is easy and my burden is light."

The Prayer Of Faith Priniples Will Give You Prayer Sense

According to the first part of the prayer of faith you must:

  1. have faith in God
  2. believe with your heart that what you've asked God for will come to pass.
  3. do not doubt in your heart that what you ask for will come to pass
  4. Be sure about what you want (James 6-8)

You must believe that what you say will be done for you in Christ.  Doubt will cause fear and fear will corrode your faith.  It will also keep you double-minded and according to James 1:6-8.  We can't be unstable about what we want.

James 1:6-8 (KJV) 6. But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. 7. For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord.  8. A double minded man is unstable in all his ways

Let's continue by reading the complete prayer of faith scripture that reveals a very important element: forgiveness. I've included the verses from Mark 11:22-26.  Please read them over and meditate upon them for clarity and familiarity which yields prayer sense!

THE "PRAYER OF FAITH" COMPLETE SCRIPTURE

Mark 11:22-26

22. And Jesus answering saith unto them, Have faith in God.

23. For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith.

24. Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.

25. And when ye stand praying, forgive, if ye have aught against any: that your Father which is in heaven may forgive your trespasses.

26. But if ye do not forgive, neither will your Father which is in heaven forgive your trespasses.

PRAYER OF FAITH UNDERSTANDING

Mark 11:22-24...

As a review, Jesus tells believers in Verse 22 to have faith in God and in Verse 23 He explains how to do it. In Verse 24 Jesus combines faith in God with prayer to create "The Prayer of Faith."

Now, we'll discuss Verses 25 and 26.  In verse 25, Jesus makes answered prayer conditional upon forgiveness and in Verse 26 Jesus clearly states God's position on forgiveness by telling us that if we do not forgive others, He will not forgive us.

It's quite clear.  If we don't forgive, we can't receie answered prayer.  The emotions that bitterness and unforgiveness brings keeps faith from growing in Christ to receive answered prayer.  So now we will add fogiveness to the prayer priciples list.

Now I'm going to add forgiveness to the prayer of faith principles list:

  1. have faith in God
  2. believe with your heart that what you've asked God for will come to pass.
  3. do not doubt in your heart that what you ask for will come to pass
  4. Be sure about what you want (James 6-8)
  5. Always forgive anyone, including yourself before you pray

There are three more principles to add to the prayer of faith.  Do you know what they are? You can find them in John 14:13-14, Philippians 4:6-7 and 2 Timonthy 2:5.

John 14:13-14 (ASV) 13. And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14. If ye shall ask [a]anything in my name, that will I do.

Philippians 4:6-7 (NKJV) 6. Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; 7. and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

2 Timothy 2:15 (ASV) 15. Give diligence to present thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, handling aright the word of truth.

The last three elements of sucessful prayer are added to the prayer Principles list.  Always pray in Jesus' Name and ask God for all things in His Name.

Don't be anxious because anxiety causes stress and fear. You already learned that fear cannot enter into prayer so you must replace anxiety with thankfulness.

The last principle is that you must study the Word.  If you know that what you want is one of God's promises, then you will have doubt that God will answer your prayers.

  1. have faith in God
  2. believe with your heart that what you've asked God for will come to pass.
  3. do not doubt in your heart that what you ask for will come to pass
  4. Be sure about what you want (James 6-8)
  5. Always forgive anyone, including yourself before you pray
  6. whenever you pray, pray in Jesus' Name
  7. don't be anxious, be thankful instead
  8. know the work so that you'll know God's blessings and promises

Prayer Sense Tips:

Keep in mind, however, that it can't be used to make someone do what you want; God's Word is not witchcraft or VOODO. We should never look to God as if He were a source of a pagan ritual.

When it comes to praying about other people, remember, we all have a free will to make our own choices. I usually pray that God sends a laborer to those I pray for who are stuck in a place that is hurting them.  Or I'll pray that they will be open to the Holy Spirit's guidance from within their hearts.

Of course, how we pray about others depends upon the person prayed for. You can also pray for a "breakthrough" in someone's life etc., and ask for God to move their hearts. If they can be touched by God they will be.

The power of our zealous prayers for others can do much! It can take time when praying for others, but when it comes to prayers for ourselves and immediate family members, we can expect a shorter time element for receiving in many cases.
