20 Spiritual Growth Scriptures To Bring Light To The Dark Place Of Your Life

Return To:  Bible Studies Scripture

I remember times years ago during a time when I knew I loved God but I felt the darkness of life surrounding me. It was cold and lonely because I wanted to feel God from my whole being, but I couldn’t feel His presence or His love.  As I began to study the Word, the life of God became a  reality and the light of Jesus Christ shined brightly in my heart and to others.  How thankful I was for Bible studies and scripture to heal my soul!

The following 20 spiritual growth scriptures are the specific verses I used to grow spiritually and to help other Christians grow in Christ. I’ve created an affirmation for each categorey similiar to the onesssharesc

The 20 Spiritual Growth Scriptures Categorized:

God’s New Testament Commandment

Probably the 2 most important verses to meditate upon when new to the Word are verses 30 and 31 from Mark 12.  God made following the Bible easy for Christians.  If we follow these two verses, we’ll love God as He loves us.

Because the Word has life, these verses will produce the fruit of the spirit within our hearts as we meditate and act upon them to create a strong, abiding love for God that will keep us from disobeying His Word.  And we’ll love our neighbors rather than hate them or sin against them.

Mark 12:30-31 (ASV)  30 and thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength. 31 The second is this, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these.

Affirmation: “I love the Lord with all my heart, soul and with all my mind and strength.  And I love my neighbors as myself in Jesus’ Name.”

Christian Transformation

Christians need to transform their lives to the “new man” in Christ as soon as they’re saved according to Romans 12:2.  If you haven’t begun the process, these scriptures will help you begin with God today.

Romans 12:2  Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.

John 4:24 (KJV)  God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.

Proverbs 3:5-6  Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding;
In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.

Mark 11:25-26 (KJV)  25. And when ye stand praying, forgive, if ye have ought against any: that your Father also which is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses.  26. But if ye do not forgive, neither will your Father which is in heaven forgive your trespasses.

Affirmations:   My mind is transformed to the Word of God so that I live by the Spirit of God rather than living by the world.  When I worship God, I worship Him in spirit and in truth.  I obey the Lord and forgive others as God forgives me.

Understanding God’s Will

The more we know about God, the more we understand how He loves us, what He desires from us and how we can draw nearer to him.  These scriptures are helpful for new Christians to learn more about God and put Him first in their lives.  There are many more scriptures that fit into this category, but these are good to begin.

Romans 8:27  And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints in accordance with God’s will.

1 Peter 2:15  For it is God’s will that by doing good you should silence the ignorant talk of foolish men.

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18  Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.

1 Thessalonians 4:3-5  It is God’s will that you should be sanctified: that you should avoid sexual immorality; that each of you should learn to control his own body in a way that is holy and honorable, not in passionate lust like the heathen, who do not know God.

Matthew 6:33-34  “33 But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.  34 “Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.”

Affirmations:  “I center upon the kingdom of God and His righteousness and I believe that God will bless me with everything I need.  This means that I don’t have to be anxious about tomorrow and anything.  I can rest in the moment while I trust God and be at peace in Christ.  This also means that I can be joyful always no matter what seems to come against me.”

Christian Wisdom

James 1:6-8 (KJV) 6. But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. 7. For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord.  8. A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.

Philemon 6  I pray that you may be active in sharing your faith, so that you will have a full understanding of every good thing we have in Christ.

Proverbs 18:21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue; And they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.

Joshua 1:8 This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.

Affirmations:  I have a full understanding of every good thing I have in Christ because I keep the Word of God in my heart and I speak the Word rather than speaking than foolishness.
