Family and Sunday School Easter Activities For Children

Easter Activities For Children

Return to:  Christian Articles

The resurrection of Jesus is celebrated each year on Easter. It’s an important time for us to remember that Jesus died on the cross for us so could have eternal life and live in victory. That’s why we celebrate Easter every year.

Children may not understand all of that so it’s important to bring it down to their level and explain it with words they will understand. There are many stories and verses from the Bible you can read to them and follow up with explanations.

Another idea is to come up with crafts they can make while you explain the resurrection and the meaning of Easter. Here are two Easter activities for children that are easy and useful to explain the resurrection.

Easter Activities For Children Part 1

Wooden Crosses

This project is good for children of all ages. It’s a good way to talk about how Jesus died on the cross and then how he was raised from the dead. These crosses can be found online or in craft stores.

If you have the time and knowledge you could make them instead of purchasing them, but store bought will work just the same. Your children can do just about anything they want with these to make them their own.

Adding colors with crayons or paint works, you can also add stickers or glitter, or flowers depending on the size. The main thing to remember is the story behind the cross.

Easter Activities For Children Part 2

Cross Plates

The smaller children may struggle with the wooden cross so the cross plate is perfect for them. There are a number of different activities you can do with a paper plate and adding a cross is one them.

Items Needed:

You’ll need crayons, colored pencils, glitter, glue, stickers, and colored paper for this activity. Show the children a picture of a cross and let them make one using the items you supplied.

Explain the resurrection can be a challenge because it may be difficult to understand. For children it’s even more difficult because they don’t have years of knowledge and the understanding of certain words.

When you use crafts and stories they’ll have a better chance of making the connection. They’ll also understand why we celebrate Easter.
